Aliyah from Rhode Island: A Photo-Text Exhibit and Panel Discussion

November 5, 2017 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Free

During the month of November (November 1-November 30, 2017), the Cranston Public Library will host Shai Afsai’s “Aliyah from Rhode Island: A Photo-Text Exhibit” which features interviews and photographs of fourteen Rhode Islanders who made “aliyah,” moving to what in Judaism is considered the spiritually elevated land of Israel.

Following the opening of the exhibit at the Central Library on Sunday, November 5 at 2 PM, there will be a panel discussion. The exhibit and panel discussion will serve as the Rhode Island Jewish Historical Association’s annual fall meeting. The exhibit and panel discussion are made possible through a grant to Providence’s Congregation Beth Sholom from the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities

The two-hour event (2 PM-4 PM) will welcome five local experts, scholars, and researchers for a panel discussion on the subject of aliyah from Rhode Island. Moderating the panel will be Providence College’s Dr. Adam Myers. Members of the panel will include Shai Afsai, Miriam Abrams-Stark, Rabbi Barry Dolinger, and Dr. George Goodwin.
