Benjamin Franklin’s Influence on Judaism: A Talk by Shai Afsai

October 14, 2018 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Free

In addition to his enduring contributions to science and government, Benjamin Franklin also managed to influence Jewish thought and practice, a feat he accomplished posthumously through his famous autobiography and its “Art of Virtue,” which found their way into Eastern European rabbinic circles in the early nineteenth century.

Join Providence author Shai Afsai for an exploration of this intriguing subject! Afsai has been published in Anthropology Today, Journal of the American Revolution, Reading Religion, Reform Jewish Quarterly, Rhode Island History, Shofar: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Jewish Studies, and Tablet Magazine.

The event is taking place at the Rhode Island Jewish Museum/Sons of Jacob Synagogue on 10/14 at 2:00pm.
