Humanities Happy Hour with newportFILM screening of The Apollo

August 1, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 11:00 pm

Free

You’re invited to join the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities on Thursday, August 1, 2019 for a Humanities Happy Hour. Join us as we partner with newportFILM for their wonderful newportFILM OUTDOORS series.

Bring your own picnic, blanket and/or chairs and enjoy a night under the stars watching The Apollo –a new documentary film that weaves together archival footage, music, comedy, and dance performances along with behind-the-scenes verité to chronicle the history and contemporary legacy of the New York City landmark Apollo Theater. Learn more about this film from Academy and Emmy Award-winning director Roger Ross Williams on the newportFILM website.

The Humanities Council will save a picnic area for up to 50 people – look for the banner! Bring your own picnic and beverages, or enjoy a host of delicious options available from food trucks. The Humanities Council will provide some light refreshments. See below for more details.

This event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. Registration is limited. Please RSVP today!

newportFILM OUTDOORS enlivens the cultural community through its film events on the lawns of various institutions across Aquidneck Island. Each screening ends in a moderated post-film Q&A session to bring to life the humanities themes present in the film, while providing insight and a behind-the-scenes look at a film’s production. The 2019 weekly OUTDOORS series welcomes between 750-1,300 guests and is supported by an $8,250 major grant from the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities.
