How To Contribute to the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities

A Variety of Giving Opportunities

Imagine if our public discourse was built on a foundation of empathy, respect, and understanding.

What problems might we solve? What tragedies might we prevent?

Through the humanities, we explore the range of human experience - what we think, feel, and value. We explore how we act, and the consequences of those actions.

How better to build a foundation of empathy, a climate of civility than through the humanities?

By documenting pieces of our lives - through oral history, film, exhibit - and interpreting them in the company of others - through discussion and debate - we affirm what we share in common, and come to value each other's differences.

Since its founding, the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities has awarded over $6.6 million in grants to support over 500 organizations in offering public humanities programming throughout the state of Rhode Island.  Hundreds of thousands of individuals have participated in Council-funded events and activities. These are the documentaries, lectures, walking-tours, oral histories, exhibits and more that develop a climate of civility, build the foundation of empathy that is needed in our world today.

Please join us in building this foundation. We cannot do it without you.
