Lydia Maria Child was the most important female American abolitionist of her age. She wrote An Appeal in Favor of that Class of Americans Called Africans in 1833 to petition that African Americans be permitted to vote, hold public office and serve on juries. The RJD and the New Bedford Historical Society are delight to welcome Ray Rickman, a leading expert on Ms. Childs who has collected all twenty of her books in first editions format.
