Ponaganset High School Creates Interdisciplinary History and Math Unit on Spanish Flu with RICH Civics Mini Grant

Curricular materials available to download!

This year RICH awarded a mini grant to Ponaganset High School to support a new history unit for students entitled Studying the Spanish Flu Through Local Town Records. The goals of the unit were not only to discover more about the experience of the epidemic in Scituate, but also to have students gain experience in a genuine investigation of historical records and encourage both teachers and students to look to local records more often in their research. The results of this project are now available online on the Foster-Gloucester Regional Schools website where you can view the “Instructions for Teachers” that they produced on the unit and the historical records of the epidemic which they compiled in a digital archive. To access their materials online, click on the Spanish Flu tab on the bottom left of the page. Congratulations to project director, Donald Reuker from Ponagasett High School for creating such a dynamic learning experience for his students!
