East Bay Bike Path Historic Interpretive Signage Installation Celebration

2010-10-02T10:00:00

Join the Barrington Preservation Society in the celebration of the installation of historical interpretive signage installed in seven locations along the East Bay Bike Path.

You may have ridden the East Bay Bike Path in Barrington dozens of times.  But do you really know what history took place along the way?

By the end of September, historical interpretive signage will dot the Barrington portion of the bike path giving those on feet and wheels a sense of the history that lies in our own backyard. The interpretive historic signage project was undertaken by the Barrington Preservation Society with funding from the RI Historical Preservation & Heritage Commission, Rhode Island Council for the Humanities, The Bay Team, and Fuel Belt, Inc.

To celebrate the project’s completion, the public is invited to a brief celebration near the East Bay bike path in Haines Park on Saturday, October 2 from 10:00 – 10:30 a.m., after which attendees are encouraged to embark on their own tour of the signs.  Refreshments and a free brochure with signage description and locations will be available.

Tying in with the bike path project is an exhibition at the Barrington Preservation Society Museum entitled On the Path: Bikes & Other Wheels.  This exhibit will be viewable from September 22 until January 10.  The Museum hours are Wednesday, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 11:00 – 3:00 and it is located in the lower level of the Barrington Public Library building.  Admission is free.  For information call 289-0802.
