Days of Darkness, Days of Hope
This presentation documents the deinstitutionalization of patients in Rhode Island mental health and mental retardation institutions. The photographs of the buildings (Ladd School, Institute of Mental Health), the workshops given to residents to aid survival in the outside world, preparing the community to accept residents in their neighborhoods, and every aspect of institutional life are included. The photographer was given carte blanche to photograph all these fascinating aspects of deinstitutionalization.
Industrial Revolution (Nature to Profit: The Transformation of the Blackstone Valley)
These pictures were photographed in 1994 to document the use of the Blackstone River and other aspects of the natural world to aid in the onslaught of the industrial era.
RIP: Transforming Violence, Cultivating Community
The photographer has been documenting the shrines and other memorials that communities create after acts of deadly violence for several years. These memorials, composed of photographs, flowers, poems, and keepsakes, help community members deal with their sadness, loss and grief. More than 60 murders have occurred since Mr. Mancini started to photograph in the streets of Providence, Pawtucket, and Central Falls. They’ve taken place in downtown clubs, the Chad Brown and Hartford Projects, Manton Ave., Broad St., Elmwood Ave., Friendship St., Pine St., Taylor St., Cranston St., Dexter St., and Charles St. The public response differs in each case, some deaths were not memorialized publicly while others were memorialized with shrines and nurtured for years. The deaths and shrines that have been photographed all had something in common---a community who loved the victim.
Forests of Southern New England

Photographs of the forest floor, tree canopy, alpine, and swamp environments are includeded, along with those of old growth forest, tree diseases, and wood products. Hear also about clear cut versus selective managing of our local forests.
