The Importance of Being: A Play in Earnest by Jeremy J. Kamps

The Importance of Being… follows a neurodiverse family through a time of change and growth. As Nile prepares for his wedding and dissertation defense, he is thrust into the responsibility of caregiver for his brother Graham and sister Whitney, who are both on the Autism Spectrum. As Nile struggles with his role, his fiancé Cassandra tries to help bridge the growing tensions in a family that are all trying to find their place in the world.

Neurodiversity New Play Festival

Spectrum Theatre Ensemble is excited to announce its second annual Neurodiversity New Play Festival. This summer we will be premiering six 10-minute plays written by up and coming playwrights, feature readings from selected neurodivergent playwright submissions in our series Through the Lens of Neurodivergence, and premiere The Importance of Being… (a play written in earnest) by Jeremy J. Kamps. This culminates into our Neurodiversity Everywhere Tour this Fall ‘21 and Spring ‘22.

The Neurodiversity New Play Festival contains performances from July 30 to August 1 at The Wolf School in Rumford, Rhode Island. Performances run approximately an hour and a half.

STE believes that cost should not be a barrier in attending any arts events. If you or your loved ones need access to free or reduced tickets, please send an email to festivalmanager@stensemble.org.
