Join us as we continue honoring the life and legacy of Edward Mitchell Bannister, a dynamic Black 19th century painter who helped shape Providence into the Creative Capital. On September 10th, the Providence Art Club and the Bannister Community Art Project unveiled Providence’s newest landmark, a statue dedicated to Bannister. Light refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be served during a reception immediately following the event.
Hosted by Multimedia Journalist and Lifestyle Segment Host Temi-Tope Adeleye, the panel discussion will feature an interview and conversation amongst Bannister statue sculptor, Gage Prentiss, Dr. Sherri Cummings of RIC; Fine Art Collector, Dr. Nick Bruno, and Michael McGuigan, Adjunct Lecturer in Education at Brown University and Middle School Ethnic Studies at Trinity Academy for the Performing Arts.
The event is free and will be presented in a hybrid format, both in-person and virtually. However, registration is required (deadline 10/20/2023). To register, please visit: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/building-bannister-panel-discussion-tickets-726785734697?aff=oddtdtcreator
