Home Movie Day is an annual celebration of homemade films and the communities that made them. The Rhode Island Historical Society joins local hosts around the world to provide equipment and moving image expertise, and the public is invited to attend and bring their home movies to share with the audience. The following formats can be projected: 8mm, Super8 and 16mm film, Video8, VHS, DVD, MiniDV, digital video files.
Home movies are historical records of people and places. They show us how people really live, at different time periods and in different communities, from the perspective of the people that made them. Home Movie Day is a chance to come together as a community to appreciate the value of these moving image memories and to learn how best to care for them.
As host, the Rhode Island Historical Society will share some home movies from our collections, but mostly we are counting on YOU to bring the entertainment!
