Don’t Miss It: “Light Up the Knight” is a free, outdoor concert to Kick Off Centennial Celebrations at the Knight Memorial Library.
This special outdoor event, which marks the one hundredth anniversary of the opening of the iconic Knight Memorial Library, will feature award-winning Dominican-American salsa star EhShawnee, music from DJ Trackstar and a performance from the Providence Drum Troupe. There will also be a bounce house for children and food trucks.
The Centennial Celebration will conclude with the spectacular illumination of the facade of the Knight Memorial building, which will continue to be lit up after dark during the centennial year and beyond.
About the performers
EhShawnee is an award-winning and talented singer recognized for her contributions to the world of salsa music. Born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, she later moved to the United States with her family and settled in Providence. It was during this time that she began to develop her vocal talent and pursue a career in music.
DJ TrackStar: Best known for his prolific mixtape work and as the tour DJ for Run the Jewels, Trackstar the DJ has been fortunate to travel the world playing music he loves, working and performing with many of the greatest artists in hip hop since his start behind the turntables on college radio in St Louis in 1999.
PVD Drum Troupe: Born from the pandemic, we are the Providence Drum Troupe! Musicians, acrobats, flow arts, life-size alien puppets, hoopers, lasers and dancers from near and far who create funky beats with positive interactive energy…demonstrating that living in harmony with one another is not an antiquated notion.
Light Up the Knight has been made possible thanks to a generous donation from the Friends of Knight Memorial Library, with additional support from Community Libraries of Providence and Councilman Juan Pichardo.
