Frequency Writers: Rhode Island’s Oldest Creative Writing Organization
The Essay as Form focuses on the essay as a productive form with no limits. Each week, students will read or see an essay (yes, there are essay films as well) that will serve us as a model for the essays students will make. Among the possible readings: Fred Moten, Zoe Leonard, Susan Howe, John Edgar Wideman, Moyra Davey, Janet Malcolm, and of course, Theodor Adorno, whose essential essay, ‘The Essay as Form’ will inaugurate the class.
Students will come away with a minimum of 3-5 (essay) pieces, each written in a radically different style, that they may, over time, develop into a longer, more fully realized essay.
All levels are welcome so long as you are ready to do the necessary work (weekly class readings, writing assignments, class participation).
Classes are virtual and held every Wednesday from October 19 to November 23, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
*NB: In honor of the Veteran’s Day holiday, the Wednesday, November 11 class will be held on Monday, November 9.
Tuition: $265 | Scholarships are available.
