Please join us for a “What I Am Thinking About Now” presentation by Zimife Umeh, Presidential Diversity Postdoctoral Fellow in Brown University’s Sociology Department, titled “Formerly Incarcerated Black Women and Institutional Distrust.”
Abstract: This presentation explores how institutional responses throughout the life course shape Black justice-involved women’s ability to trust institutions. Dr. Umeh will argue that despite the adverse consequences of a lack of institutional trust, formerly incarcerated Black women are in fact rationally responding to racially hostile institutions.
“What I Am Thinking About Now” is an on-going informal workshop/seminar series to which faculty and graduate students are invited to present and discuss recently published work and work in progress. All are invited to attend and participate.
