RI Humanities has been grateful to have Anna Marti (she/her), a Masters in American Studies candidate at Brown University, join our team as a Sponsorship Intern this spring. Anna spent last year on a Fulbright in Athens, Greece teaching English to kids ages PreK-12 and graduated from Wesleyan University in 2022 with a bachelor’s in American Studies and Education. Her passion for engaged scholarship and relevant cultural and community-based education has been a throughline throughout these experiences. Anna is currently working on a public/digital humanities project for her MA capstone, and is excited to learn through this internship more about what goes into making public humanities work possible from the side of fundraising and development.

What do you find more interesting about RI Humanities’ work?
I am interested in RI Humanities’ unique positioning, connected to the NEH and strongly rooted in its community as a non-profit. This makes the council well-suited to bring together folks from different sectors to promote Rhode Island history and culture. I am also drawn to RI Humanities’ commitment to increasing diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
Do you have a favorite cultural experience &/or place to visit in RI?
I just moved to Providence in the fall, so I am still learning the area. But, some of my favorite things so far have been checking out the various flea markets and other small vendors on weekend days and at Water Fire. I also really enjoy walking around Roger Williams Park; I have been going to the jack-o-lantern lighting since I was a kid!
What are your favorite things to read/watch/listen to lately?
I love podcasts and audiobooks. My favorite podcast is Normal Gossip! I have also been really into campus novels recently – I just listened to The Marriage Plot, which is set at Brown.
