The Council recently awarded $8,200 to the following humanities projects:
Davisville Middle School, $2,000 to Snuff, The Triangular Trade Route, and the Gilbert Stuart Connection. Funds support a field trip of Davisville Middle School students to the Gilbert Stuart Museum.
Mary Beth Meehan, $2,000 to Providence Portraits: A Public Installation and Conversation. Funds support the production of humanities components surrounding a portrait series highlighting the varied backgrounds, identities, and “faces” of the citizens of Providence.
Rhode Island College, $1,700 to Wordsmith/Metalsmith. Funds support public programming about Rhode Island’s jewelry history to accompany the upcoming exhibition “Wordsmith/Metalsmith” at Rhode Island College’s Bannister Gallery.
The Rhode Island Computer Museum, $2,000 to The Story of Global Communications. Funds support the construction of a traveling exhibit of historical communication devices from the Rhode Island Computer Museum.
The Wilbury Theatre Group, $500 to The Wilbury Group’s Chat and Chew. Funds support public talkbacks after performances of “Next to Normal,” a play that encompasses themes of mental illness, drug abuse, and familial ties.
