READING ACROSS RI KICKS OFF!

February 4, 2015 By RI Humanities

The Council and the Rhode Island Center for the Book kicked off the 2015 Reading Across Rhode Island program with a packed house at the Pell Center for International Relations and Public Policy at Salve Regina University on Saturday, January 31. This year’s selected book is Norwegian by Night by Derek B. Miller, who joined us by video to introduce the themes of the book. Watch the video here!

The event featured a panel discussion with two of this year’s EnRICHment scholars: Robert Hackey, professor of Health Management and Policy at Providence College and a visiting fellow at the Pell Center, and Marta Martinez, the Executive Director of Rhode Island Latino Arts. Jim Ludes, Executive Director of the Pell Center, moderated the discussion, which highlighted themes of the book, including memory, veterans’ experiences, intergenerational communication, and family history. Living Literature, an organization dedicated to teaching literature with an imaginative, hands-on approach, gave a preview performance of Norwegian by Night. These scholars and the Living Literature performance are available through the EnRICHment program. Learn more and book an EnRICHment speaker here.
