Sensory Week Newport offers points of connection

December 19, 2016 By RI Humanities

The humanities provide us with the tools to listen deeply, value differing perspectives, and broaden our world views. As 2016 comes to a close it can seem like the days on the calendar are flipping by at warp speed which is why we were honored to spend last week embarking on Sensory Week Newport – a Catalyzing Newport residency with Dr. Estevan Rael-Gálvez and his professional partner Cindi Malinick. Rael-Gálvez and Malinick worked together creatively with Catalyzing Newport partners and community members to collectively tell the story of Newport through activating their senses. Thanks to Sean Flynn of the Newport Daily News for wonderful coverage of Sensory Week Newport. Read the full story here and learn more about Catalyzing Newport here.

“I love history,” Rael-Gálvez said. “I love storytelling and creating experiences for people to understand the past and the present and to make connections between the two.”

Stay tuned for more from Catalyzing Newport in the New Year and remember to activate your senses as you engage with your community this season.
