The 21st Century Essay as an exercise in scale and perspective
Writer and historian Jane Gerhard takes us on a journey—exploring how the Aurea Ensemble’s blending of poetry and music weaves together a whole new kind of concert experience—asking audience members to suspend the urge to know, “what they are supposed to think,” in favor of enjoying the experience as a method for reflection and connection. “This is no mere sound collage or sentimental voice over,” Gerhard says. “The juxtaposition is far more dynamic than that.”

HUMANITIES AT PVDFEST
The Humanities Council is proud to sponsor PVDFest (June 2-5), promoting Providence’s unique arts & humanities communities. Council grantees and partners are featured throughout the festival, and art installations featuring stories, connections, and the humanities will take place throughout the weekend.
ANNOUNCING THE 2016 HUMANITIES AWARD RECIPIENTS
The Humanities Council is proud to announce four distinguished awards to be presented at the 2016 Celebration of the Humanities on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at the Providence Public Library. The occasion will bring together community and business leaders, government officials, scholars, artists, and Rhode Islanders to raise funds to support the public humanities including culture, history, heritage, and civic education in our state.
JOIN THE HUMANITIES COUNCIL TEAM
Adrian Moore Trask, our talented Development & Communications Manager, will be moving with her family to New Mexico this summer. She leaves her position at the Council to further her career in the fields of the humanities and creative arts management. We will miss Adrian, but we know great things are ahead and look forward to staying connected. We are now accepting applications for a full-time Development & Communications Officer.
